World Cup Salads
To celebrate the 4 semi final teams in this year's football World Cup, we prepared a dish to represent each country.
The 2 semi final games were Belgium v France & England v Croatia, so we made to following dishes:
England - Potato Salad
Croatia - Burek
France - Salad Nicoise
Belgium - Waffles
We used a lot of the skills that we'd learned throughout the year and a few new ones, including measuring, weighing, safe cutting, cracking raw eggs, peeling boiled eggs, making a vinaigrette, making hand blender mayonnaise & cooking waffles.
Some people made some fantastic bunting , from the countries' flags, too, then we all ate our dishes together, as a big celebration.
We really enjoyed the cooking days and tasting different types of food from different countries.

Soup Invention
In our cookery lessons in Year 5 we have been learning to make soup.
We each invented our own vegetable soup, using all our favouirte ingredients. Ms Marsden, our cookery teacher, then chose the top 4 recipes for us to choose from.
We learned alot of skills when we prepared the vegetables for our soup, including peeling and safe cutting, using sharp knives. Ms Marsden taught us 2 safe ways to hold the things that we were cutting. These are The Bridge Hold and The Claw Grip. You can see a film HERE that explains them.
We also learned to wash up properly, so that germs don't grow on the equipment that we have used.

The top soups in 5W were:
Vegetable Heaven Soup
Creamy Vegetable Soup
Vegetable Soup
Caribbean Soup

They were all delicious and we really enjoyed eating them.
If you'd like to try our tasty recipes, you can download our booklet HERE.

Vegetable Pancake Rolls
For our autumn cooking day, we learned to make Vegetable Pancake Rolls. We snipped all the ingredients up with scissors and then rolled them inot pancake roll wrappers.
Ms Mrsden put them in the oven for us and while they were cooking, we washed up and clean the floor and the tables.
We ate the pancake rolls with sweet chilli sauce. they were delicious.
If you'd like to try them at home, download the recipe HERE.
