Homemade Pizzas
In Year 4 this week we learned to make pizzas from scratch. We even made our own bases.

We started by weighing our flour and then rubbing butter into it with our fingertips. Then we added a little milk & an egg and mixed it all together with a knife. We rolled out the dough and covered the base with tomato purée. Then we used the bridge hold to cut up lots of different vegetables to put on top of our pizza. We even tried olives and anchovies. They were both very salty and only some people liked them. We topped the pizzas with grated cheese & a sprinkle of pizza herbs and Ms Marsden put them in the oven for just 15 minutes.

While the pizzas were cooking, we quickly washed up, wiped the tables, and swept the floor. Then some people got to taste their pizzas. As it was Ramadan, some people were fasting, so they wrapped their pizzas up to eat later. Everyone who tasted them said that they were delicious.

If you'd like to try making your own pizzas at home, you'll find the recipe HERE.

Soup Invention

Year 4 have been inventing their own vegetable soup recipes. Over half term they wrote their own recipes, featuring their favourite vegetables. Each class then chose their favourite recipes and we cooked them. Ms Marsden showed us how to peel vegetables and to cut safely, using the bridge hold. (See a film HERE) We used very sharp knives, so we had to concentrate and be careful.
Ms Marsden fried the onions and garlic, then we added the other ingredients and cooked the soup for 15 minutes. While it was cooking we learned to wash up, dry up, wipe the tables and sweep the flour. When the soup was cooked Ms Marsden puréed them with a hand blender and we tasted them. They were delicious and we all agreed that we love vegetables.

Savoury Muffins
For our autumn cooking day, year 4 learned to make savoury muffins. We used a lot of maths skills to weigh and measure the ingredients, using weighing scales, measuring jugs and measuring spoons. Ms Marsden also showed us how to crack an egg safely. We mixed all the wet and dry ingredients together and then carefully spooned the mixture into muffin holes.
Ms marsden put them in the oven for us, and while they were cooking, we learned to wash up properly, so that germs don't grow on the quipment that we used.
