Ancient Egyptian Cooking
In year 3 we are studying the Ancent Egyptians, so for our cooking days we made recipes from Ancient Egypt. We made our own flat breads, by rolling out bread dough and letting it rest for half an hour.
Ms Marsden got the ovens really hot and then we cooked our dough for 5 minutes. It puffed up and look great.
We learned to wipe the tables properly and then we prepared garnishes for our Fuls Mesdammes, which is recipe that has been cooked in Egypt for thousands of years and is still eaten there today. It is fava beans, like our broad beans, cooked with onions, garlic, cumin & olive oil.
The garnishes we prepared were lemon juice, slices of hard boied eggs, parsley, coriander and spring onions.
We wiped the tables again, and when we sat down to eat our beans, we each chose how much of each garnish we would like. We ate the beans with our flat breads and really enjoyed them. Some of us even had seconds.

Cheese & Vegetable Pasties
In year 3 we have been making cheese and vegetable pasties.
We grated some cheddar cheese and mixed it with cooked mixed vegetables. Next Ms Marsden gave us a each a piece of ready made puff pastry & we used our rolling pins to roll it out a bit bigger.
We put half of the mixture in the middle of each pasty and then used milk to stick the pasty together. We brushed a little more milk on the top & Ms Marsden put them in a hot oven for us.
While the pasties were cooking, we learned to wipe the tables properly, to remove the food that germs would grow on.
When the pasties were cooked, we used our knives and forks to taste them. We all agreed that they were delicious and that we could easily make them at home.

Pasta Bake
For our autumn cooking day in year 3, we have been learning to make Pasta Bake. We snipped lots of tasty things up, with scissors & put them in the bottom of a foil container. We then weighed our pasta and added it to the container. We topped everything with tinned tomatoes and a pinch each of stock powder and sweet paprika. Ms Marsden put them in the oven for us and while they cooked, we learned about how vegetables are really good for our bodies. Making Pasta bake
